Getting Started

After installing Invisible Selection from the Chrome Web Store, click the extension icon in your toolbar. Use the toggle switch to turn the invisible selection effect ON or OFF. Your preference is saved automatically and syncs across your Chrome devices.

Toggle ON — Text selection highlight is hidden on all webpages.
Toggle OFF — Normal selection highlighting is restored.

The toolbar badge shows ON (purple) or OFF (gray) so you always know the current state at a glance.

Troubleshooting

If the extension doesn’t seem to work on a page, check the known limitations below first.

General fix: Try reloading the page (Ctrl+R) after toggling the extension. If the extension was just installed or updated, existing tabs may need a reload to pick up the content script.

Known Limitations

Chrome Restriction

Does not work on chrome:// pages

Chrome does not allow any extension to inject content into internal browser pages such as chrome://settings, chrome://extensions, or chrome://flags. This is a security restriction enforced by Chrome itself and cannot be changed.

Chrome Restriction

Does not work on Chrome Web Store pages

Chrome blocks all extensions from running on chromewebstore.google.com for security. Text selection on the Chrome Web Store will always show the normal highlight.

Technical Limitation

May not work inside Shadow DOM elements

Some modern web applications use Shadow DOM (a web component feature) that creates isolated styling boundaries. The extension’s CSS cannot reach inside these boundaries, so selection highlights inside Shadow DOM elements may still be visible.

Technical Limitation

Chrome PDF viewer is not affected

Chrome’s built-in PDF viewer uses its own rendering engine with a separate selection system. The extension’s CSS does not apply to the PDF viewer.

By Design

Selection is invisible, not disabled

The extension only hides the visual highlight — text selection itself is not disabled. You can still select, copy, and paste text normally. If you try to select text and nothing seems to happen, you may already have text selected — try pressing Ctrl+C and pasting.
